The holy town of Rameshwaram finds its mention in the great Hindu epic – Ramayana, which reveals that Lord Rama took a halt here while returning to Ayodhya from Lanka. He offered his prayers to Lord Shiva at this place to get relieved off his sin of killing the demon king, Ravana.
